There is No I in team

This past weekend we had a yard sale.  In fact, many of you donated items for this event.  It was a lot of work organizing and getting all the stuff out and ready, but it was worth it.  God blessed us with great weather and a great turn out.  Together we raised $1150.00 in six short hours.  This success got me thinking about how so many people contributed different amounts of things.  Some loaded us up with piles of stuff while others were able to only contribute a small amount, but at the end of the day God blessed and with everyone's efforts we exceeded our goal.  This event lead me to today's blog post: There is no I in team!

As I reflected on our yard sale I began to think about the first century church.  We read in Acts 2:45-47 "And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,  praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved."

What a beautiful picture.  The members of the first century church were selling all they had to care for the needs of others.  They were sacrificing and doing whatever it took to make sure the gospel message was carried out and all the needs of those around them were being met.  For their efforts the "Lord added to their number."  That is our goal, our desire, and our plan: to share God's glorious gospel and allow his Holy Spirit to call people to himself and to salvation.  There is, however, one requirement: a team.

We cannot do it alone.  We must be part of a team.  Each member of a team functions in a very different role.  Each role is separate, but no role is unimportant.  We need team members to pray.  We ask that you pray that God will open doors and allow us to come into contact with churches or individuals that are interested in forming partnerships with us.  Pray that God will meet our budgetary needs, and he will provide us with more than enough to be successful in Guatemala.

We need team members to give.  Do you know if 40 families just give $25.00 dollars a month we will meet a third of our monthly budget.  For less than what it costs to take a family of four out to eat you can join our team and make an eternal impact in God's kingdom.  Just imagine how $25.00 dollars could bring hope to a small child living in the dump of Guatemala City.  We may not be able to rescue him or her from a life of poverty now, but we can allow them the opportunity to hear about Christ and have a glorious eternity ahead of them.

Finally, we need partners to go.  Over the next few months we will be assembling a schedule for 2014.  We are hoping to host between 6-12 teams.  We are looking for teams of any size.  If you are a pastor or leader in a church and are interested please let us know (  We would love to discuss options with you.  If you are a church member and your church is not going somewhere already or is looking for a new place to serve we can help! We can get you started in participating in the great commission or allow you to share a new experience in a new country.

There are many things that we are not sure of, but there are a few things we are sure of.  First, we know that God is good, and he will provide.  Second, we know that when people come together and all pitch in and do a little, a lot will be accomplished.  Just look at our yard sale. Everyone donated what they could and six hours later we raised over $1100.00.  Just remember there is no I in team, and we need your help.
